YU Block Party
Kick the weekend off early at the Youth UpRising Block Party. The all ages event starts at noon and runs until six. There’s basketball, a skateboard tournament, and live music by R.O.D. featuring DJ Art and DJ Jack. If you’re still not sold, they’ll also be jumper games.

After the block party swing over to the Paramount to catch E.T. on the Big Screen. Arrive early for a good seat to the Family Classic and to hear Jerry Nagano play a Wurlitzer organ serenade at 7:30.

Krowswork
Also on Friday night, the Krowswork Gallery presents Act 1 of Its Own Nothingness. The three-act show gets kicked off with photography by Peter Dobey, which promises to change the gallery space “into a coherent installation as a living, breathing tableau.” Act 1 will show through July 30.

Tango in Oakland
